As part of TasRail’s Tasmanian Freight Rail Revitalisation Program (Tranche Four), year two of the South Line Trackworks project aims to renew approximately 18,856 metres of rail and 4,630 metres of sleepers.
The contract was awarded to DT Infrastructure (DTI) in late July 2025 to undertake these essential upgrades.
Between August and mid-September, DTI successfully renewed 7,620 metres of rail in poor condition between KPS 174.580 and KPS 178.390, near Epping Forest on the South Line. This work was completed safely and efficiently as shown in the photos below.
The TasRail Tamper Team is conducting tamping operations in this section of the network and rail stressing works are scheduled to commence shortly.
In parallel, DTI has also begun renewal works in our Conara Yard, focusing on both the main line and loop tracks. This includes the removal of long-standing mudholes on the main line and renewal of rails and sleepers in the loop.
These upgrades are critical to improving the safety, reliability, and longevity of Tasmania’s rail network, supporting efficient freight movement across the region.
