Despite challenging weather conditions and soft ground in the remote, vegetation-covered location, the team was able to complete all planned activities without incident.

The final phase of the site investigation involved borehole drilling, conducted systematically from north to south across the proposed development site. The images on this page show the drilling rig used for this work and a drillcore tray containing samples recovered from surface soils down to hard bedrock.

Over the coming weeks, Pitt & Sherry will undertake laboratory testing of these samples to assess subsurface conditions and provide engineering recommendations. These investigations are critical to understanding the site's structural characteristics and ensuring the long-term performance of the new rail infrastructure and associated facilities.

The Hampshire Hub marks a significant step forward in enabling greater volumes of freight to be moved by rail. It reflects ongoing investment in Tasmania’s regional transport and minerals sectors, reinforcing the importance of resilient and efficient infrastructure.
