Community Engagement

At TasRail, we believe our strength lies in the people we serve and the communities we’re part of.

That’s why we continue our commitment to grassroots initiatives, that deliver meaningful support to those who need it through donations, sponsorships, and partnerships across Tasmania.

Staff-led efforts like the Salvation Army’s Bags of Hope campaign remain close to our hearts - especially during the festive season. And of course, the much-loved TasRail Christmas Train continues to light up spirits, with nearly 20,000 visitors exploring its dedicated website in the countdown to Christmas.

Community sport inspires us, and we’re proud to have backed a number of special events, and players, at Tasmanian sporting clubs across the State. Our support for education also continues with on-going sponsorship of Queechy High School’s F1 in Schools senior team, helping future innovators chase their dreams.

We also throw our support behind cherished local events like the Mt Lyell/Strahan picnic, Rosebery Athletics Carnival, and the Rosebery Festivalcelebrating the unique spirit of our regional communities.

Giving back goes beyond events. One of our most rewarding recent contributions was aiding the recovery of Wings Wildlife Park after devastating floods. We donated two 60-foot wagon bases, managing logistics and delivery to assist in rebuilding infrastructure and improving access for the future.

Preserving Our Rail Heritage

TasRail is passionate about keeping Tasmania’s rail legacy alive and works closely with key Tasmanian tourist and heritage rail groups. Over the last five years we’ve donated more than a dozen legacy locomotives and rail assets to dedicated preservation organisations across the state.

Each transfer involves meticulous planning, from resource coordination and contractor support to safe lifting, heavy haulage, and careful unloading. It’s all done to ensure these historic pieces of Tasmania’s railway story are protected and celebrated for generations to come.
