Licensing

The TasRail Property Team is responsible for operating the TasRail Licensing system.

The TasRail Property Team manages the licensing system for various types of access and infrastructure associated with the State Rail Network. This includes:

  • Private rail crossings
  • Stock crossings
  • Third-party owned services and infrastructure installed on rail land.

Licences are essential for formally documenting the respective rights and responsibilities of both TasRail and the third party involved.

Licence terms and conditions are tailored to the permitted use and are designed to address associated risks and liabilities.

For third-party assets or service infrastructure installed within State Rail Network land boundaries, the licence also outlines installation requirements and technical specifications—such as location, depth, ‘as constructed’ drawings, and other relevant information.
