TasRail's Christmas Train returns to spread holiday cheer in 2024

PublishedNov 28, 2024

The much-loved Christmas Train is gearing up for another magical journey this festive season, returning to the tracks on Sunday, 1 December 2024 and TasRail has already hit the "go live" button on its train tracker website for 2024, ensuring that everyone can track the locomotives as they light up the State.

TasRail CEO Steven Dietrich shared his joy at the ongoing popularity of the Christmas Train. "We start receiving messages in October from eager fans. It’s become a bit of a tradition for some families," he said.

“Our drivers tell us that seeing the excitement and smiles on kids’ faces is so rewarding.”

Introduced in 2021, the Christmas Train Tracker ( christmastrain.tasrail.com.au) has become the go-to platform for fans to track the train’s journey. The website provides updates on the location of the lit-up locomotives, along with approximate timetables, allowing families and holiday enthusiasts to plan where they will catch their dose of festive fun.

"As Christmas Train fans would know, our lit locomotive timetables can vary due to several operational factors. That’s why our website is designed to adjust the viewing times as our schedule changes, to keep everyone informed," Mr Dietrich explained.

For up-to-date information on the Christmas Train’s journey, TasRail encourages fans to visit the website for timetables and updates rather than calling or messaging through social media. TasRail’s Facebook page will continue to share festive photos and essential safety information.

Speaking of safety, Mr Dietrich reminded everyone to be "rail safe" during their Christmas Train experience. "While you’re out there soaking in the holiday spirit, please remember to always watch from a safe distance—well away from the tracks and the danger zone," he said.

"We want everyone to enjoy the train safely with their families, but also to remember that TasRail operates 24/7 year-round, so always stay vigilant near the rail corridor."

He said that a lot of hard work went into bringing the Christmas Train to the community each year.

"Our team puts in countless hours to make this a reality, and we hope it brings a little extra Christmas cheer. We want everyone to have a merry Christmas, and to go home safe and well every day to enjoy precious time with their friends and family.”
