TasRail is pleased to announce that VEC Engineering has successfully tendered for the first of the Tasmanian Freight Rail Revitalisation Program works packages. This is a $120 million investment in the upgrade of priority sections of the State’s rail network, jointly funded by the Australian and Tasmanian Government’s Infrastructure Investment Program (IIP).
VEC is a Tasmanian based company with its head office in Ulverstone, employing 86 people. The Company has made a commitment to TasRail that it will use local suppliers for its subcontracting and service requirements.
This works package will see 10,000 new sleepers and six kilometres of new rail installed on priority sections of the Melba Line, the South Line and the Western Line. Total Project cost is around $5 million including the cost of materials, services and contact labour.
