A significant milestone in the revitalisation of Tasmanian Rail was reached today with a major contract signing for the supply of TasRail’s new locomotive fleet.

Downer Rail, in partner with Progress Rail USA has been awarded the TasRail contract to design, build and deliver 17 new PR22L locomotives, modified to suit the Tasmanian rail network.  The first new locomotives are expected to start arriving by mid 2013, with completion within 18 months.
