TasRail confirms that a mainline derailment occurred on the South Line just after 7pm tonight.

The train was travelling north to Burnie, when the derailment occurred just south of Colebrook. Six fully loaded wagons came off the track.

Work has commenced to clear the site, and affected customers have been advised of potential service delays. The derailment will not affect services on other parts of the network.

The Rail Safety Regulator was notified immediately, Today’s mainline derailment is the fourth reported by TasRail this financial year. TasRail also confirms that an internal investigation into the cause of the derailment is underway.
